Policy makers have come up with a raft of strategies in the field of energy in recent months, but recent events will undoubtedly ask more questions of them which will shape the future EU energy mix.
From a policy perspective, the Energy roadmap 2050 consultation has now closed – with a Communication likely later this year - and a Roadmap for the low carbon economy 2050 was adopted earlier this month. The European Commission is also looking at energy infrastructure financing, and a Communication on Security of Supply before the summer. In addition, a public consultation on offshore drilling safety is open until 11 May. The responses to this consultation will be taken into account by the Commission in the preparation of the eventual legislative proposal. In the field of nuclear, the Commission is also looking at revisiting standards and stress-testing for reactors.
Against this background, we are delighted to be hosting an event in Brussels with the British Chamber of Commerce on 5 April with the Director General of the European Commission’s Energy DG, Philip Lowe, where these ïssues will be discussed.
