Pharmaceutical and healthcare issues have implications for all citizens and as such, it is a major concern of the Chinese government.
Difficulties ensuring proper healthcare and the high costs associated with healthcare have raised one of the most heated public debates in China. In 2005, The Development Research Centre under the State Council and World Health Organization (WHO) conducted research on the reform of China’s healthcare system and concluded that overall, reforms have been unsuccessful. Healthcare system reform recently gained renewed attention from the government, the general public as well as the media. The Chinese government has come to realize that the development of healthcare in China is lagging far behind its sizzling economic development. There are obvious inadequacies in the healthcare service in view of the growing needs for better health among the Chinese people.
